4 Tips for a Strong Common App
4 Tips for a Strong Common App The following piece was written by Linda Abraham. Linda has been featured in ourAdmissions Expert seriesand is the President and Founder of Accepted.com. College applicants have you looked at your calendar today? Its already NOVEMBER! Its time to crack down, get serious, and crank out one uncommonly great Common Application. The following four tips will help you manage your apps over the next few weeks: 1. Give yourself time Well-crafted, thoughtful essaysdont just pop into existence on the eve of your deadline. Rather, they require time and attention usually in the form of multiple drafts and careful revision. The 500 words in your Common App personal statement allow you to showcase your personality and talents, and if your college doesnt request an additional essay, then those 500 words are your sole opportunity to do so. Dont rush this important process. Start now and give yourself time to polish your gem. 2.Think how others will view your application Once youve filled out your applications forms and boxes and have a good working draft of your personal statement, its time to step back and think about how the college adcom will view your data. Are all of your test scores and transcripts accurate? Are your job descriptions and extracurricular activities clear? Have you focused on achievements and not just on descriptions of responsibilities? Is your personal statement interesting and persuasive? Have you made effective use of examples? Does it provide key information about who you are? 3. Proofread, proofread, proofread! You may think youre done with your application once youve ensured that all sections are filled out and that all data is accurate. But is your personal statement well-written? Have you checked your grammar and spelling? You need to edit all sections of your application, with a strong focus on your personal statement. Read your essay aloud to listen for errors that your eyes may have missed. Ask a teacher or parent to review your writing. View the final document to ensure proper formatting. 4. Submit before the dinger Submitting your application may take more time than you realize, so waiting until the very last minute is not wise. Leave yourself time to troubleshoot as well as to avoid last minute panic and missing the deadline. Browsers crash. Servers overload. Technical glitches beyond your control happen (especially this year when the Common App website and healthcare.gov have something in common: bugs). Submit early. VisitAccepted.comor find them onFacebookandTwitter. The views expressed in this article do not necessarily represent the views of Varsity Tutors.

Huntington Learning Center Curriculum Now Fully Aligned with Common Core State Standards
Huntington Learning Center Curriculum Now Fully Aligned with Common Core State Standards Huntington Learning Center Curriculum Now Fully Aligned with Common Core State Standards Throughout our 36-year history, Huntington Learning Center has stayed in tune with the needs of our students. As American education has evolved and changedfrom standards-based education reform evolving throughout the 1980s and 1990s to the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 making waves in the 2000sHuntington has adjusted its curriculum as appropriate in order to ensure our students receive the tutoring support they need to be successful students. Today, Huntington remains at the forefront when it comes to supplemental education. Three years ago, the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Initiative was introduced, and those standards have since been adopted and implemented by schools and school districts in most states. We too have aligned with the CCSS in all of our academic, SAT/ACT and other preparatory programs. And in December 2013, our curriculum implementation was complete. What does this mean for the families we serve? It means that Huntington stands ready to help students meet the challenges of these new, more rigorous educational standards. As schools curricula and assessment testing evolve, students will need help that extends beyond the type of support they may have needed previously. Huntington is prepared and excited to embrace those challenges together. Here are several ways Huntington has adjusted its curriculum and operations to prepare for tutoring and test prep in the Common Core era: Updated math curriculum and skill matrices that adhere to CCSS mathematics standards. Updated reading/writing curriculum that adheres to CCSS English-language arts standards. Trained Huntington teachers who understand how the Common Core State Standards impact teachers, schools and teaching strategies and are prepared to teach to the more rigorous standards. A refined focus on college and career readiness throughout Huntingtons programs. A greater emphasis throughout Huntingtons programs on key CCSS objectives, including better problem solving, enhanced critical thinking, etc. As always, Huntington is dedicated to delivering the best possible education to our students and today, that means helping students navigate the significant changes taking place at their schools and in their classrooms. While the origins of some words are still hotly debated, the potential origins are intriguing to consider. Here, well share 50+ foreign words used in the English language that are bound to surprise you! Why Does English Use So Many Foreign Words? There are many very logical reasons why languages (including English) borrow words from each other. For instance, sometimes English will borrow a word from another language in order to describe things for which an English word doesnt yet exist. This happened a l ot when English settlers arrived in the New World. After all, there were countless things that English speakers had never encountered, but which indigenous groups and earlier Spanish explorers had already given names to. Whenever theres cross-cultural interaction like that, new words are bound to pop up between languages.Additionally, English often uses foreign words to name culturally specific things, like food. The Italians already gave pizza a great name, so when English speakers started enjoying the food, there was no need to change it. Why waste time renaming when you could be eating? Finally, theres a long history of languages borrowing words from each other. This has been happening for thousands of years. For whatever reason, some languages just have a particular pull across cultures. Its not just English that borrows words. Take, for instance, the French word bistro. College Grads 5 Ways to Polish up Your Online Presence
College Grads 5 Ways to Polish up Your Online Presence Graduating College in the Spring? 5 Ways to Polish up Your Online Presence Graduating College in the Spring? 5 Ways to Polish up Your Online Presence Students who will be graduating soon should consider how their online presence reflects their actual personality or how they want it to reflect their real personality. Employers will be looking for a responsible, reasonable adult who knows that theres a time and place for most things and who can represent their company in a positive light. College graduation is not the time to have a 100% open relationship with the internet and work is not the place to be connected to social media. There are few things soon-to-be graduates can do to polish up their online presence and have a better chance of being hired into a professional career. 1. Privacy Settings Please Its crucial for soon-to-be graduates to adjust their privacy settings on their social media pages. Potential employers want to know that applicants know how to separate work and fun and behave in a manner that reflects their company culture. Grads should adjust privacy settings to be as strict as possible. Make sure that what employers can see is positive or neutral and represents you as a professional (READ: Fullerton College Tutor Tips: Work-Life Balance in College). 2. Match Your Image to the Company Culture Another thing college seniors can do is think about how their image relates to the companys image. This will most likely be affected by a students LinkedIn profile. Students wishing to go into a non-profit, for example, should make sure that any recent volunteer experience is readily displayed. Future journalists should provide a link to any freelance articles etc. If the company is very serious, the studentâs LinkedIn profile and social media page should also be. If the company is innovative, the studentâs profile should be progressive and so on. 3. Your Personal Life is Personal Every person is entitled to a personal life. However, it should be separate from work and not displayed where a potential supervisor or colleague can see it. Soon-to-be graduates should be careful of whom they allow seeing their social media pages and, if theyre connected with networking contacts for current colleagues, they should be sure to keep their most personal life offline. Its amazing how quickly a small comment can make it back to the wrong person in the office. 4. Avoid Controversy and Excess Negativity Students might be used to discussing controversial or negative topics online. Unfortunately, many companies will not want this negativity in the workplace. The office environment is meant to stay neutral and allow each and every employee to feel comfortable while getting their job done. Avoid bringing such negativity into the workplace by first taking it off of online profiles. Try and keep things positive or, at least, neutral during a job search (READ: 5 Reasons to Learn a Second Language in College). 5. Dont Discuss Your New Job Probably most importantly, its essential that recent grads donât discuss their new job online once theyre hired. Although its great to let friends and family know that you are now working at a new company, thats about all you should say. Lots of information will be confidential and should never leave the office. Additionally, if new employees donât like certain aspects of their job, they should always keep these comments private. It can be unpleasant if an employer finds out that an employee has been telling 850+ friends that they really didnt want to work late on Friday. What may just seem like venting to you can be taken very personally by a colleague. In Short When students start to look for their first post-graduate job its a good idea to look at all online and social media profiles and clean them up. Although its unclear how many employers do social media checks, its much better for them to find a positive and professional online presence if they do go looking. For a while, its better to keep personal topics offline and save the difficult or negative discussion for face-to-face socializing. Chemists Should Use Chemistry Subject Test Practice
Chemists Should Use Chemistry Subject Test PracticeChemistry subject test practice tests are becoming increasingly popular as a teaching tool. This is for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that science can be an exciting subject with limitless possibilities. But don't worry, you don't have to take a test right away. You should begin studying for the exam in your spare time, and not the exact same classes that you will take to pass your chemistry class. In fact, you may want to go back and take some additional chemistry coursework. You can use the subject test practice you have already taken for research. Take it as a template for a future assignment or question. Most of the time, tests will ask similar questions, so you can see how easy it will be to fill in the blanks on this test. The entire purpose of a test is to help you master the skills and concepts that you need to pass.A student taking a test in the first year of study can often be overwhelmed by all the information involved. They don't have time to learn it all and don't even know where to start. The best way to prepare for chemistry subject test practice is to first sit down and figure out which topics you need to learn. Some of the easier concepts include: composition, physical properties, equilibrium, ionic equilibrium, chemical bonding, and water and gas mixtures. If you haven't studied or even heard of the concepts that fall under chemical bonding, then you might want to skip ahead. Chemistry subject test practice will help you answer the questions in the best way possible. It's possible that, because the test is so different from the real thing, you may think about topics that aren't even in your coursework. But you can rest assured that the test isn't giving you answers based on anything but what you've learned. On the other hand, if you're already studying chemistry for the real exam, you'll find that subject test practice helps you to hone your critical thinking skills and give you confidence that you'll be able to pass the test. Answering the same questions over again only serves to reinforce the concepts that you already know. These topics will help you become better at solving problems, so that you will make more accurate predictions about how things will turn out.Now that you know why you should practice on chemistry subject test practice, you can use this information to make sure that you'll do well on the real exam. And don't worry about studying for the real exam!

Definition of Concentration in Chemistry
Definition of Concentration in ChemistryWith the rise of the internet, more students are learning about the definition of concentration in chemistry. The Internet is becoming a destination for information and sources from various fields including education, science, engineering, business, health and others. For anyone interested in learning about the definition of concentration in chemistry, the internet provides several sources that can lead one to the right answer. The internet has already offered us other sources of information regarding the chemistry definition. With the internet's tremendous expansion of information, it is now becoming easier for students to get started with their studies without too much delay. One interesting aspect about the definition of concentration in chemistry is that it involves the use of color. When you are asked how you define concentration, the answer can be given by coloring your drink at different dilutions. What does it mean to be concentrating you r drink? The answer can be answered by coloring the colored plastic containers when you put them in water. In the past, when people were asked what they meant by 'conserving' their water, they usually responded by throwing away the bottle with the red ink, or by creating the process to create the red ink, using pressure, sometimes with a damper. This was the way in which the 'conservation of liquid' was usually done, and the solution was never considered as an acceptable method.People may also find the term concentration to be very limiting. It seems that even the most complicated chemical reactions are only recognized by an assembly of smaller processes.Chemists in the past few years have made great leaps forward in the understanding of chemistry. The advance of the understanding of chemistry has been accompanied by the emergence of new methods of understanding, but the scientific community has not yet accepted all these new techniques. So, there are many definitions of concentration and many ways to use them in a more holistic and comprehensive way. Whatever the definition of concentration, for students, the focus needs to be on learning and applying the most important techniques that are associated with concentration.

What Is a Radical in Chemistry?
What Is a Radical in Chemistry? What is a Radical in Chemistry? This is the most basic question asked by a student who wants to be an organic chemist. In this article, we will try to explain what a radical is and how it can lead to fruitful success in your science studies.A radical is nothing but a reaction product of an existing chemical compound. In other words, radicals are a reaction which results from chemical reactions that had to be performed in reverse order. However, they are an important part of nature. For example, a surfactant is a compound with a hydrophilic property (which means that water molecules will attach to it) and it is a radical.A radical, of course, is also something that happens within the body. The heart pumps around them and an enzyme in the liver are a radical. The aim of Organic Chemistry is to use the radical to our advantage. At the heart of the game is the method of rearrangement called The Atomic Model. It helps us understand how the different kinds of radicals interact with each other in nature and how it relates to changes in the physical and chemical properties of compounds. Now that you know what a radical is, it will be a great help to understand how you can become an Organic Chemist or a Chemical Chemist. Let's see some steps to getting an A-level in Organic Chemistry. We will start with a history lesson about the concept of radicals. The chemistry of radicals is nothing new. In fact, radical theory has been around for several years. If we go back in time, the relation between radicals and oxygen was well known. Then, after World War II, the concept of radicals became more prominent inphysics, especially as a result of the nuclear reactor. The idea of a radical is like having your own little generator that will provide power when the right kind of energy is applied to it. Now that you have an idea about what a radical is, it is time to start your career as an Organic Chemist. Take this opportunity to embrace the world of knowle dge and pursue your degree.
Deckbuilding With a TCG Demonic Tutor
Deckbuilding With a TCG Demonic TutorA TCG Demonic Tutor is a card that can show up in a variety of decks. They can be an absolute fantastic addition to any aggressive or midrange deck. One of the first things to look at when you are building a deck is what specific synergies you can find. If you have access to Prophecy and are looking for cards that have Prophecy as a part of their name, Demonic Tutor might be the card for you. Other options include Red Elemental Blast, which can help you find a copy of a particular Red Elemental or you can always drop a Monster with its effect. If you already have the appropriate support and hate for your opponent, you don't need much more. You could look at sending all of your monsters to the graveyard or keep a full hand but playing a few random things to get rid of cards like Dark Hole and The End of Anubis. The same is true if you find a way to manage your hand so you can gain a bit of tempo. The deck I am building right now runs four copies of Wa rped Light and I am planning on trying some other colors next week. I don't mind running Warped Light over a Demonic Tutor, because it provides me with an additional tool that will let me draw cards more effectively, depending on the situation. Warped Light provides a way to keep your hand full without taking too much damage and if I use Warped Light in conjunction with Demonic Tutor to dig for one or two good spells it will make my whole deck strong. If I were to run both cards, I would keep one copy each and put the other copy in the sideboard, to provide extra card draw or topdeck abilities depending on the match-up and/or the colors that I am running. It's important to note that using any multiple copies of Demonic Tutor in a deck may severely limit the number of cards that your opponent can play and keep in mind that some cards are banned in constructed and they may be a must-answer threat. If you have an older version of these cards that did not come out in paper monster decks, you can expect to be playing against more traditional control decks that will have far less answers to all of your cards, if any. So you will need to find ways to get past their answer and pull ahead. The TCG Demonic Tutor is a great addition to any deck that can pull it off. A deck that includes multiple copies will be able to draw the necessary cards from it to beat down and pull ahead when necessary.
God of Chemistry
God of ChemistryGod of Chemistry is a hit book with a message of discovery in the natural world. It is written by Dr. William Roberts. It will definitely be a gift to every natural scientist who wants to expand their knowledge of nature and there way of thinking. God of Chemistry is a book that has all the materials needed to understand how elements, compounds, elements are formed, as well as how they react with each other. Each of the six elements is the main subject of the book. These include sulfur, potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, iron, and cobalt. Each of these six elements has an illustration of an element, which will help in its understanding. The demonstration is handled in the class level.Sulfur is an element that is often used to determine the health of some people. It is a gas that is usually found in the form of sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid is used as a laboratory reagent. Sulfuric acid is used in micro-cybernetic engineering as a material to trap an electron. You ca n see sulfur compounds in their simplest form as white crystals of sulfur.Potassium is an element that is very often used to determine how certain foods react in the body. It is used to determine how certain foods cause cancer. Potassium is used in cases of organ blockages or kidney stones. Potassium is also used in cases of anemia.Sodium is used in cooking. It is found in salts, sauces, and foods such as popcorn. Sodium is used to determine the alkalinity or saltiness of some foods. It is often used in cookware to determine the amount of alkalinity. Sodium is also used in tests to see how cold certain foods will cause an increase in glucose production.Potassium is another element that is often used to determine the health of some people. It is used to determine the amount of potassium or sodium in a person's blood. It is used in cases of heart attack. Potassium is also used in cases of anemia. Potassium can also be used to determine the amount of acidity in a person's blood. Now we know that the sixth element is sulfur. This element is used to determine the origin of certain plants. It is used to determine the way these plants form.
